Harvesting Butterflies

Madeline received a butterfly habitat for her birthday. We sent off for 5 caterpillars and over the last week, we've watched them grow from about 1/4" to an inch and a half. They are almost all now in the chrysalis stage and are hanging upside down in the provided jar. It's really cool to watch this happen in from of our eyes and Mads is so excited! She begged for me to give her a phone today while she was at school today so that I could call her when they turn into butterflies. She doesn't want to miss a thing. Hopefully this metamorphosis will take place in the evening or on the weekend!

Sleep

Madeline and Lola are now sharing a room. It's OK most of the time. Lola likes to keep Mads up at night, and wakes her up early in the morning. However, they have ended up in the same bed in the morning and this shot of them last night was just too cute. Madeline's position is typical...hard asleep with her face in a book.

Coconut

They loved it!

Rain

It's rained a bunch here over the last few weeks. That probably translates into a couple of inches, but rain is exciting for a kid who never sees it!

Ist day of Kindergarten

I picked up Madeline from her first day of kindergarten. She got in the car, buckled her seat belt, and said, "Mom, can I get a treat for doing that?"

More Long Beach pics

Long Beach

Gina and I drove to Long Beach with all three girls for a quick respite from this horrible heat. We got to see "Uncle" Chris, go to a super cool aquarium with the funkiest seadragon and 3 week old seahorses, ride horses and play on the beach. It was a fun little escape.

Go Diego, Go

For b-day presents this year Gina and Kate got the girls Go Diego Go tickets. The next day we drove to Long Beach for some quick beach time.

Birthday Girl

For Madeline's cake this year, the theme was all things Madeline loves: unicorn, candy, bugs, flowers, and sugar....check out the masterpiece! Everything but the wires and lolli stick were edible. The inside was 4 layers of heavenly vanilla with one lemon curd filling and 2 marscapone cheese fillings. Yum yum yum!
